Worth taking a job 30 miles away at $10/hr? (big math issue) =/?
I currently work at Payless making minimum wage which is just right up the street. All of my employment history is from banks and a new bank just offered me a job. It's part time (30 hours per week) at $10 an hour...the catch is it's 33 miles away.
I'm horrible at math. Completely mathematically illiterate and am failing my college algebra miserably.
I drive a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu which gets about 30 mpg. So considering the figurations, A vehicle traveling 66 miles about 4 days a week (there and back each day) and the vehicle recieves 30 miles to the gallon, how much will it cost per week in gas with gas being $2.89? That being said, will it be sane to do it making $10 an hour. I'd like to know how much I'd pocket, but if it's too much to ask then that's ok.
thanks!
My appologies. The job I have now is approximately 15 hours a week at $7.25 an hour...so it's a big difference in money wise.
Since you are working about 8 hours a day (7.5 hours) then the gas will cost you less than a dollar an hour (85 cents per hour!)
You didn't say how much you are currently making, how many hours you have, and would you quit your job if you got this one?
You should also factor in your time driving, you could be doing something else, wear on the car (cheap compared to gas), and if you worked closer you could bike.
OVERALL the gas is cheap and shouldn't really play that much of a part in the decision.. do you want the job? is it worth your time, need the money, help you get a better one, etc
